She called me this morning to tell me that "Mr. Baggett had passed away"....and, I knew immediately of whom she spoke. He was a wonderful person and took excellent care of the children in his charge.....(we lived at Oakwood then). Lynne McDonald (daughter? Michelle McDonald) Jeannaand Larry Knowels 2/20/2012 11:48:11 AM This is sent with love to EACH in this beautiful family. Thank you for the times you shared your Husband and Dad with me-such special times. I can only say that you have lost a very dear person in your family but truely heaven is blessed with the BEST and Leland is where he has talked about so much. Remember the talks over and over and over of JOY-"the certainty of God's presence." Now we can all experience this amidst the sorrow of his absence. He would be so happy to know we learned that truth from him-can't you see him smiling his little sheepish grin:) Love you and our prayers are with you. It is a beautiful day hear and so much more beautiful for our SWEET LELAND, love you!!! David Irvine 2/20/2012 2:17:07 PM Dear Anne and Amy, It is with great sorrow that I heard of Leland's passing. I know it must seem strange that he held such mythic qualities for us suburbanites, but he did. I remember his firm, rough handshake and his strong, confident voice. I am so glad he was able to officiate my brother's wedding, and I am so glad I was able to play music for him at the Knights reunion. Leland was a strong man that held a tender heart. I plan to be there on Wednesday to honor the memory of a great soul. I hope you both find peace and comfort in the memory of all the little miracles Leland performed on a daily basis. Love, David Danielle Wooten 2/20/2012 3:01:25 PM I am so sorry for your loss but know that you are thankful for the time you had together. I know that he was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed. I will be thinking of you all during this difficult time. Lori Sullens Aiken Harold & Gloria Stanley 2/20/2012 10:14:48 PM Mr. Baggett is remembered fondly for his kindness and devotion to the students he took to and from school for many years. He was the best driver my children ever had all thru school. He was a fine man. Mrs. Lance (Liz) Grissett 2/21/2012 12:25:38 AM Dear Anne, my heart is hurting just knowing Leland's absence will bring many days and nights of grieving and missing him. Not missing him because you don't know where he is--he is in Heaven and the happiest person with Jesus, his Lord. He will be joyously waiting for each of you to join him when God's plan and purpose has been fulfilled in you. May God keep His loving arms around you, Amy, Kurt and their family,as well as your other children, their spouses and grandchildren. I pray that you will feel His comfort, strength and perfect peace during these difficult days--He is a gracious God--He needed Leland at this particular time knowing he had completed the work He had planned for him as His Servant to others. Our Cece loved the two of you and thought of you as her 'second parents'. I truly believe that God placed Amy and Cece so their paths would cross--she's such a dear friend to Cece...like a sister. May God bless each of you and know I care. In Christ, Liz Grissett Tony Hamilton 2/21/2012 12:33:38 PM Anne, I love you and am so sorry to hear about the homegoing of your beloved husband. I was blessed to have him as my driver all my years in school, along with my brothers, but he was also my daughter's driver for a few years also. Greatly loved, respected and will be missed- but we know he is now with Jesus Christ! What a blessing to have got to know him here!! Prayers and thoughts to Mrs. Baggett, Amy and the rest of the family. Jimmy Westray 2/21/2012 8:19:54 PM Anne I'm so sorry for your loss. I have a lot of fond memories of Leland. He enjoyed his motorcycles and I always enjoyed seeing him come by my store. He was one of the best men I've ever known. He was a great example of what a Christian man should be. We will l keep your family in my prayers. Jimmy and Debbie Westray Allison Dluzneski 2/21/2012 10:50:14 PM Dear Anne and Amy, I was so sorry to hear of Leland's passing. I remember fondly visiting all of you in the summer and playing ping pong upstairs. I was always in awe of Leland. He seemed larger than life, especially in my childhood memory of him. I'll never forget the beautiful words he spoke at Robert and Tina's wedding ceremony. On that day, I could barely get through my short speech as my emotions and tears overtook me, as they often do. Afterwards, Leland came up to me and said when your emotions are that close to the surface, it just means that you have so much love in your heart. I'll never forget his tender words of reassurance to me. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, Allison Cindy Navin (Johnson) 2/21/2012 11:29:29 PM My heart goes out to your family for your loss. As many others, Mr. Baggett was my bus driver in the early nineties. His caring demeanor and wonderful smile is something that he shared with every child on his bus. He touched the hearts of everyone he met, and I thank you for sharing him with us. Know that your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Brenda Thomas Kirt 2/22/2012 11:10:17 AM Anne, I am saddened over your loss. I recall you calling Leland every morning you arrived at work. I, too practice that with my husband. I know there is a void that only time can fill. 40 plus years is a long time. If you need to talk, please call me, perhaps we can meet for lunch or dinner. Please let us be there for you. May God ease your pain and comfort you with each passing day. We may not understand but He does. I know there are an abundance of memories that will bring you many smiles. Your husband and father left this place with the effects of his spiritual gifts all around. He touched numerous lives, including both of ours, and we are only two of the multitude whose lives were enriched by having known Mr. Baggett.
