Deacon Joseph R. Carter, age 71, of Suwanee, GA passed away Monday, February 13, 2017. He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Carol Sanders Carter, Suwanee, GA; daughters, Shani Carter, Suwanee, GA, Christy Carter and husband, Drake Morgan, Gainesville, FL, Lee Ellen Carter, Gainesville, FL; sister, Frannie and Dick McMahon, Salem OR; brothers, Percy and Orangie Carter, Nashville, TN, Harvey and Becky Carter, Nashville, TN, Mike and Maggie Carter, Lakeland, FL; numerous nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Brilee Smith, Chelsea Crews, Caleb Coleman, and Sage Morgan; and great granddaughter , Clementine Crews. Deacon Joe Carter was born April 16, 1945 in Nashville, Tennessee. He was a 1963 graduate of Father Ryan High School in Nashville, TN and a 1984 graduate of Sunny California with a Master’s Degree. He was a retired veteran of the U. S. Air Force after twenty years of service. He was also a retired industrial engineer from Lucent Technologies after sixteen years of service. He was a member and Deacon of St. Monica Catholic Church in Duluth, GA. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Monica Catholic Church with Father Jack Durkin to serve as Celebrant, with a Rosary service on Thursday evening, February 16, 2017 at Flanigan Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Monica Catholic Church in Duluth, GA in memory of Deacon Joe Carter.
