My father was a promoter and booking agent in the late Sixties and the name "Houston Platt" came up frequently in our home. RIP Houston. I was at the Yellow River Drag Strip in Covington, Ga (around 1969)when I first saw him. I saw him several years later at a kids baseball he was attending, supporting one of kin folks playing ball. We raced in Saskatoon Saskatchewan and spent an evening tasting a few "Pops" . I remember Huston for a couple of reasons. He impressed me as a good guy and I was taken with the name Huston, so much so that I named my Son after him. I blew the spelling as his name is Houston, but no doubt the Name came from Huston Platt. Huston Delaine Platt Sr. of Buford Georgia, husband of Annalyn McDonald Platt for 51 years, passed away Wednesday November 30, 2011 at his home. Born November 16,1932 in Little River South Carolina. He is survived by (son) Huston D. Platt Jr. “Rocky” and Tammy Platt, grandchildren Andrew Platt, Jordan Platt, Logan Platt of Buford Georgia, and (son) Richard “Ricky” and Nancy Platt grandchild Taylor Tomlinson of Buford Georgia. Also survived by (sister) Mabel and Ronnie Hammer of Bennettsville South Carolina, (brother) Ray and Beverly Platt of Daytona Beach Florida, (brother) Hubert and Linda Platt of Cumming Georgia, (sister in-law) Gail and Michael Moore of Andrews South Carolina, (sister in-law) Sherry McDonald of Walterboro South Carolina. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Huston served in the United States Army, was a professional drag race car driver, and worked for Cecil Malone Company for 20 Years where he retired from in 1992. In his spare time Huston enjoyed playing golf and helping with his grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford Georgia on Friday December 2,2011 from 6:00pm to 8;00pm, and on Saturday December 3,2011 from 4:00pm to 5:00pm with the service immediately following at 5:00pm at Flanigan Funeral Home, 4400 South Lee Street, Buford GA 30518.
