Elaine Ivey Payne

Elaine Ivey Payne, age 89, of Dahlonega, GA and formerly of Sugar Hill, GA passed away on Monday, December 24, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, James DeForrest Payne, Sr.; daughter, Sheryl Lynn Payne; father, Joseph Olin Ivey; mother, Iva Goolsby Ivey; and brother, Joe Ivey. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy S. Gent (Floyd), Bremen, ME; son, James D. Payne, Jr. (Lynne), Elberton, GA; grandchildren, Adam Gent (Diane), Waltham, MA, Ben Gent (Mei), New York City, NY, Kelley Engleskirger (Michael), San Antonio, TX, Lindsey Brackett (Joshua), Cleveland, GA, Corey Payne (Alaina), Lilburn, GA, Katy Stephens (Paul), Dawsonville, GA, Ashley Hill, Spring Dale, UT, Calley Payne, Nashville, TN, Kelsey Payne, Johns Creek, GA and Audrey Amos (Lee), Hartwell, GA; sixteen great grandchildren; sister, Wanslie Ivey Poole, Clarksville, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Payne was born April 30, 1929 in Atlanta, GA. She was a 1947 graduate of West Fulton High School in Atlanta, GA. She married the love of her life, James DeForrest Payne, Sr. on September 11, 1948 at Glen Memorial Chapel at Emory. She was a devoted wife and mother, a homemaker and talented seamstress. She worked along with her husband, James DeForrest Payne, in the office as an inventory assistant within the clothing industries. Mrs. Payne enjoyed a lifetime of boating on rivers, lakes and coastal areas with her husband. She attended Sharon Baptist Church and Mozely Drive Baptist Church. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Buford, Buford, GA where she was also a member of the Upper Room Sunday School Class. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. G. Stephen Wood officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, GA with graveside service at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at Flanigan Funeral Home one hour prior to service. The following will serve as pallbearers: Corey Payne, Joshua Brackett, Paul Stephens, Lee Amos, Adam Gent and Benjamin Gent. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Chelsey Park Health and Rehab, 200 Mountain Park Drive, Dahlonega, GA 30533, in memory of Elaine Payne.
