Tony Harrison

James (Tony) Anthony Harrison, age 77, passed away unexpectedly on August 15, 2023. Tony was born in Buford, GA on November 21, 1945. He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Martin Harrison; his parents, Luke and Mozelle Harrison; his parents-in-law. Fred and Sarah Martin; his sister, Laura Harrison; his brother-in-law, Ray Sexton; his sister-in-law, Martha Light; his nephews, Danny Sexton and Ebb Scott. Tony is survived by his daughter and her fiancé, Mary Frances Everett and Ricky Crawford; his beloved grandchildren, Raylee Rose Everett and Jackson James Lee Crawford; his sister, Charlotte Harrison Sexton; sisters-in-law, Edith and Buster Puckett, Vivian and James Youngblood, brothers-in-law, David and Irma Light and David and Joy Martin; Deborah Martin; eleven nieces and nephews; and numerous very special friends and family members. Tony was a graduate of Buford High School, class of 1963. He continued his education at Emory University, followed by The University of Georgia where he received Bachelor's Degree in English. He later returned to UGA to earn a Master's Degree in Elementary Education followed by an Education Specialist Degree in Guidance and Counseling, Tony taught at Sugar Hill Elementary for thirty-two years, thirteen as an elementary school teacher and nineteen as an elementary guidance counselor. Tony also had served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Tony was deeply involved in his church, First Baptist Church of Buford. throughout his life. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Activities Director, RA Leader, Children's Worship Director, Adult Choir Member, Silvertones Senior Adult Choir Member, and many other roles. Tony enjoyed the little things in life. He especially loved music of all kinds and you could often find him dancing to anything by Aretha Franklin. He was happiest when surrounded by friends and family with good music and good food. He could have his own "Church" anywhere, and it often look place in the car listening to Whitney Houston. His laughter and positivity were infectious, and he left a mark on everyone he met. There are no words to describe the glorious reunion that occurred when he saw Glenda again on Tuesday morning and walked the streets of heaven fully healed. He now knows fully the words written in Isaiah 43:1, “…I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name, you are mine.” Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Buford, with Pastor Wayne Johnson and Mike Shoemake officiating. There will be no graveside service per Tony’s request. Honorary Escort will be the Tuesday Morning Prayer Breakfast Buddies. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 18, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, GA; and again, on Saturday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eagle Ranch, P.O. Box 7200, Chestnut Mountain, GA in memory of Tony Harrison.
