William Robert "Bill" Cogswell

William Robert "Bill" Cogswell, age 55, of Marietta, GA and formerly of Lawrenceville, GA passed away on October 5, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Col. David G. Cogswell and Teresa Gahn Cogswell. He is survived by his sisters, Cindy (David) Wiley, Suwanee, GA and Vicci Cornette, Lawrenceville, GA; brothers Tim (Lynn) Cogswell, Greenville, SC and Tom Cogswell, Riverside, CA; four nephews; four nieces; three great nephews; one great niece; aunts and uncle, June and Don Woodward, Benton, LA and Kate Darton, Charlotte, NC; and many cousins. Bill was born at Ft. Belvoir, VA and graduated from Central Gwinnett High School in 1978 and later DeKalb College. He was formally trained in auto and motorcycle mechanics and was an accomplished chef as he was an Executive Chef at The Vines and then for many years until his illness at Doc's in Smyrna, where he had a large following of dedicated friends and patrons. He was very proud of his twice award-winning wing recipe and special meals he would prepare during special holidays for those who had no close-by relatives to celebrate with. He was well-read with his interests varied and eclectic. He could speak intelligently and more importantly interestingly for hours on a variety of subjects. Bill took a meandering pace through life picking up bits and pieces with him as he went and shared them with others. His example and gifts sometimes enlightened others on how life can be difficult at times. He loved the Atlanta Falcons and was a lifetime fan through thick and thin. He loved camping and had a special place he shared at Horse Trough Falls in the North GA Mountains. He loved his parents, admiring the love and cherishing they had for each other. Bill was a great uncle and relished his time with his nieces and nephews bestowing sometimes unusual and interesting gifts upon them. Like his siblings and other relatives he was a natural teacher, and his greatest gift to his nieces and nephews was his time in activities like astronomy, playing Risk, auto repair, etc. A Celebration of Life visitation will be held Friday, October 9, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, GA.
