In Loving Memory of Amani Burrell November 18, 1953 – July 19, 2023 Columbia, SC - Amani Burrell, formerly known as Cassandra Pearlette Burrell, was born on November 18, 1953, in Columbia, South Carolina, to David Burrell, Sr. and Bertha Middleton. Amani was the cherished second youngest of seven children. Her life was filled with ambition, dedication, and a thirst for knowledge that left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Amani's pursuit of education began in Columbia High School, and she later graduated from East Orange High School in East Orange, New Jersey. Her determination led her to Valparaiso University in Indiana, where she completed an Associate of Arts degree, fueling her lifelong love for learning. On her journey, Amani found love and companionship in David Tillman De Ramus, with whom she shared the joys and challenges of life. Together, they welcomed five beautiful children into their lives, whom she adored above all else. Amani's love and dedication as a mother knew no bounds, and her children were her pride and joy. Driven by her passion for understanding the human mind, Amani pursued a degree in Psychology, a field that allowed her to touch countless lives and provide support to those in need. Her empathy and compassion inspired her to answer a higher calling, leading her to become a minister within the Word of Truth Christian Church. As a founding member, she played an integral role in shaping the spiritual community and guiding others on their own spiritual journeys. Amani's dedication to service extended beyond the church, as she selflessly served as a dutiful civilian servicemember of the Gwinnett County Policeman. Her commitment to public service exemplified her unwavering devotion to the well-being of others. Sadly, Amani has been preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Grant, Isaac, and David Jr., as well as her sister Ruby, her daughter Mulika Rowe, and her grandson Jacari Rowe. Their memories will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved them. Amani leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience. She is survived by her two sisters, Loretta Taylor (and JB Taylor) and Pamoja Pagnotta (and Lee Pagnotta), her four children, Mtumishi DeRamus, Majaliwa Bass (and Willie Bass), Mariama DeRamus, and Jabali DeRamus, and eleven cherished grandchildren, Jelani Freeman, Jakobi Freeman, Kyra DeRamus, Tuere Rowe, Khari Bass, Khalil Bass, Alia Rowe, Nia Bass, Nadia Rowe, Amara Bass, and Kyan DeRamus. Each of them will forever carry the memory of her love, wisdom, and unwavering support. Amani Burrell touched countless lives throughout her journey, leaving an everlasting impact on her family, friends, and community. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us as we honor her memory and strive to embody the same strength, determination, and love that defined her life. May her soul find eternal peace, and may we find solace in the beautiful memories we shared with her. Funeral services will be held at Word of Truth Christian Center on Saturday, July 22 at 11 AM. Friends and family are invited to join in celebrating Amani's remarkable life and saying their final goodbyes. We are asking that all guests please wear white.
