Anthony L. "Tony" Wood, Sr.

Anthony L. Wood, Sr. (Tony), 69, of Suwanee Georgia, peacefully passed away at 6:45 AM, Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at his residence, surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margie Wood; four children Becky Vickery, Lee and Kelly Wood, Amy and Rick Kendall and Benji and Stacie Wood; 11 grandchildren, Alex and Austin Wise, Catie, Trey and Madeline Wood, Will and Ella Traylor, Ashton, Kendall, AvaJames and TonyAnne Wood; sisters and brother-in-law, Peggy and Billy Hinson, and Shirley Williams; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eddie and Gretta Wood, Larry and Onnie Lou Wood, and Frankie and Susan Wood; sisters-in-law, Melanie Wood and Linda Wood; brother-in-law, Frank Chatham, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Tony was born August 4, 1946 in Norcross, Georgia to William and Minnie Wood. He was a 1966 graduate of Norcross High School and went on to spend the next 2 years in the US Army. On December 6, 1968, he married the love of his life, Margie Tallent, and settled down in Norcross to raise his four young children while working for his family's grading business. Tony owned and operated several business ventures until 1993 when he and his sons formed A L Grading Contractors, Inc. where he happily worked every day with his family and friends until his passing. Tony was widely known for his mastery of his trade, his acute attention to detail, and his commitment to his employees, customers and other business partners. He especially enjoyed working closely with and mentoring his family members on a daily basis. Following his wishes, Tony wanted to thank all those who were close to him and his family for their support and friendship over the 22 wonderful years he worked with the company. Tony's hobbies were family, friends and his work. He took great pride in being the "glue" that held those important parts of his life together. He was always welcoming, caring and genuine and was quick to initiate opportunities for all to spend meaningful time with one another at his home. He loved to grill out, make his famous ribs, and have his family and friends over. Everyone was always welcome. All of the grandchildren loved their Papa's ribs and no others could compare! He especially loved Christmas and the joy it brought to his 11 grandchildren and other family members. Tony's tireless commitment to his family, colleagues and community is clearly evident by the happiness and success he brought to those around him. Tony's passion in life was connecting with those around him and mentoring those who were lucky enough to meet him. He was a passionate husband, father and grandfather, and was eager to welcome many others into his close family circle. He took great pride in the achievements of those he touched and was quick to assist people in need. He had a knack of being able to connect with people in a deep positive way and made everyone feel that they were an important part of his life. The world was made better by Tony Wood and his memory will be cherished by all those who knew him. He leaves us rich in memories that will last us a lifetime and his legacy will live on forever. Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Sugar Hill Church Chapel, Sugar Hill, GA with remains placed in state at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Mike Fowler and Pastor Chuck Allen will officiate. Interment will follow at Peachtree Memorial Park, Norcross, GA. Family and friends whose lives touched Tony are invited to share his memories at Flanigan Funeral Home on Friday, August 28, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tony was an active member at Sugar Hill Church. In lieu of flowers, it was Tony's wish for donations to be sent to the Church's "Feed My Children Fund", 5091 Nelson Brogdon Blvd., Sugar Hill, GA 30518, in memory of Tony Wood.
