Charles Edward Wood Sr.

Charles Edward Wood, Sr. met Jesus August 31, 2023. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, William Daniel and Minnie Lenora Wood; his brothers, William Daniel Wood Jr., Harold Andrew Wood, Richard Emmett Wood, Sr., and Anthony Leon Wood Sr.; his sisters, Mary Wood Chatham and Shirley Ann Wood; his beloved children, Charles Edward Wood, Jr., and Margie Christine Wood Armbrust; as well as his cherished grandson, Michael Keith Wood. Surviving family includes his loving wife, Gretta Dianne Tallent Wood, who has journeyed alongside him to the most incredible mountain tops of life and and stood unwaveringly by his side in the lowest valleys for 51 years. Surviving children are Edwin Keith Wood and daughter-in-love, Anna Wood of Jefferson, Melissa Dianne Wood of Jefferson, and Joshua William Wood of Buford. Mr. Wood had 10 grandchildren. Justin and Natalie (Margie), Jason, Christopher, and Morgan (Charles), Michael and Samantha (Keith), Brandon, Savannah, and Ansley (Melissa), Anabelle and Delilah (Joshua). Mr. Wood was also proud of his 12 great-grandchildren, Julianne, Jackson, Jace, and Lane (Margie), Declan, Mead, Berrit, McKenzie, and Liam (Charles), Mason, Hailey, Grant, and Colton (Keith). A woodpile of members, too many to count, comprised of siblings, Peggy Elizabeth Hinson (Billy) of Duluth, Larry Eugene Wood (Onnie) of Helen, Frank Albert Wood (Susan) of Jefferson; nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins remain to carry on his zestful dogged determination for life. Eddie believed in red dirt, Caterpillar tractors and work boots. He believed that the work world began at 5:00 am or earlier and the whole world had spun around by noon. He thought everyone should eat sausage biscuits with mustard, ribs, good steak and that eating was always best when you shared the time with others. He was insistent that grandbabies needed ice cream along with a spot on Poppa’s knee, even when they were teenagers, or in their 20's or 30's. Doing good and sharing anything he had with others was the only way to be. It was a God-given, never changing part of who he was all through his life and even in his last days. He was gifted with an infectious smile and a steel spirit that saw him through many hills and valleys in life. When Big Ed was around, there was never a lack of smiling, poking fun, or a problem he couldn’t solve. We will miss him every single day and are so grateful that we will meet him again in Glory. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 6:00 pm at The Jefferson Church followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 7:00 pm with Rev. Howard Conine officiating.
