Christopher B. Moore

Mr. Christopher (Chris) Barry Moore of Norcross, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the age of 79. Chris was born a 'Man of Kent' to Ernest and Millicent Moore on February 25, 1938 in Kent, England. After serving in the Royal Air Force, Chris earned an Electrical Engineering degree. He married Jill Porter of Essex, England in 1963. He began his career as an electrical engineer for Plessey, a London based telecommunications company. In 1974, he took a calculated risk and moved his wife and three sons to Montreal to work for Northern Telecom (Nortel) where he helped pioneer the digital multiplex switch that transformed the telecommunications industry. In 1977, he was asked to relocate to Nortel's U.S. headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee. He resided in Hendersonville, Tennessee, where he and Jill had their first daughter, until relocating in 1990 to the Norcross area of Atlanta, Georgia, where he later retired. In addition to his professional contributions in telecommunications, Chris will be remembered for his passion for soccer. He collaborated to establish one of the first youth soccer programs in Middle Tennessee in Hendersonville. He spent many weekends as a referee and a supportive father to his four children, all who inherited his love of the game. He and Jill enjoyed raising their family in Hendersonville for twelve years where they frequently played tennis together at Indian Lake Swim and Racket Club and enjoyed water sports on Old Hickory Lake. After moving to the Norcross area of Atlanta, he continued to referee while enjoying tennis at Jones Bridge Swim and Racket Club, where he and Jill quickly became welcomed members of the community. Following his retirement in 2003, he filled his time traveling, which featured frequent scuba diving trips to the Cayman Islands as well as a polar bear expedition in northern Canada. He enjoyed giving back to the community, often volunteering at the Georgia Aquarium, PGA tour events, Special Olympics and served as a mentor to Engineering students at Georgia Tech. He was quick with his British wit, charm and sense of humor. He had a warm personality and made everyone feel at ease with his hybrid British/Southern accent. He was truly a kind and gentle man. He is survived by his wife, Jill Moore of 54 years, and their four children: Andrew (Andy), Stephen, Jeremy and Jennifer (Jenny); their eight grandchildren: Carson, Amanda, Oliver, Samantha, Brighton, Raleigh, Caleb and Maddox; his sister-in-law Jane Porter; his daughters-in-law: Kristi, Monica, Meredith; and his son-in-law John Rouse. Chris' family invites friends to join in a "Celebration of Life" at Andy Moore's house located at 840 Falls Point Circle, Johns Creek, GA 30022, on Friday, December 22, 2017, between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. His ashes will be scattered over the Cliffs of Dover where his parents rest. His family is grateful for all the condolences.
