Diane Sumner Baier

Diane Sumner Baier, age 74, of Hoschton, GA passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Sumner and Anita Sumner. Mrs. Baier is survived by her husband of twenty-one years, Kirk A. Baier; daughters, Courtney Stapler of Jefferson, GA and Kathy Baier of Hoschton; sons, Matthew (Erin) Brown of Auburn, GA, and Philip (Hope) Brown of Dacula, GA; grandchildren, Phoebe Ferrell, Paige Brown, Amelia Stapler, and James Brown; brother, John (Jane) Sumner of Tampa, FL; nephew, John Sumner, Jr; and niece, Elizabeth (Brad) Eli. Today, we gather to celebrate the life of Diane Sumner Baier, a woman whose compassion, dedication, and generosity touched countless lives. Diane was born on May 15, 1952, in Birmingham, Alabama. She pursued her passion for caring for others by earning her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Lenoir-Rhyne University and later her Master’s degree from Emory University School of Nursing. For nearly 40 years, Diane devoted her life to the nursing profession. Throughout her remarkable career, she served patients and families at DeKalb Medical Center, Habersham Medical Center, and Northside Hospital. It was during her time in the High-Risk Perinatal Unit at Northside Hospital in Atlanta that she made an especially profound impact. Diane provided comfort, support, and expert care to countless families during some of the most challenging and meaningful moments of their lives. Her kindness and dedication left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Diane was a devoted wife, loving mother to three children, cherished stepmother, and proud grandmother of four grandchildren. Her family was the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with those she loved. Diane’s faith was also a guiding force throughout her life. Her church family at Hamilton Mill Presbyterian Church meant so much to her, and she faithfully volunteered at the church food pantry, always eager to serve those in need. Helping others was not simply something Diane did, it was who she was. Whether caring for patients, supporting her family, serving her church, or lending a helping hand to a friend, she approached every aspect of life with compassion, grace, and an open heart. Diane will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched, the family she cherished, and the example she set through a life dedicated to serving others. We will always remember her kindness, her strength, and her unwavering compassion. A Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at Arlington Memorial Park with Rev. Doug Swafford officiating. The family will receive friends at Flanigan Funeral Home on Saturday, June 6, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
