Doreen Basile Towhey

Doreen Basile Towhey, 61 of Sugar Hill, GA, died of natural causes on February 1, 2024. She was born in Terrytown, NY in 1962 to James A Basile and Mary Jo (McMahon) Basile and she was the fifth oldest of seven children. Doreen attended Shamrock High School before going to work at C&S Bank, Killian Hall, All Saints Lutheran Church, and Henry Schein. She is preceded in death by her father, mother, and sister Kathleen Basile. She is survived by her husband of 40 years Dennis, her daughter Kelly, and her son-in-law Andrew, and her son James. Her brother James A. Basile and his wife Anne, her sister Peggy Levengood and her husband Mike, her sister Mary Wetherington and her husband Joe, her brother Tom Basile and his wife Carla, her brother Bill Basile and his wife Kelli. Her brother-in-law James Towhey and his wife Sue. Her sister-in-law Peggie Shore and her husband Steven. Her brother-in-law Bill and his wife Debbie. Her brother-in-law Tom and his wife Tonya. Her brother-in-law Mike and his wife Michelle. Her nephew Tommy Levengood, his wife Shelly, and their children Parker, Rex, Eli, Troy, Avery, and Marley. Her nephew Michael Levengood and his husband Lorenzo. Her niece Andrea Ouargli, her husband Nazim, and their children Leo, Sarah and Zach. Her niece Melissa Eidson, her husband Brian, and their children Sydney and Owen. Her nephew Jake Basile, his wife Chessie and their children Lou and Burke. Her niece Bonnie Wetherington. Her nephew Bob Basile, his wife Samantha and their daughter Sasha. Her niece Megan McRee, her husband Rick, and their children Christopher “Bear” and Maisie Jo. Her nephew Timothy Levengood. Her niece Katie Basile. Her niece Grace Basile. Her niece Anna Hanlin and her husband Wiatt. Her nephew Theodore, his wife Audrey and their children Penelope and Theo. Her niece Madeline Sewell and her husband Matthew. Her nephew Christopher Shore, his wife April and their son Aiden. Her niece Katie Williams, her husband Bryan and their children Madelyn, Amelia, Cara and Trae. Her niece Jessa Piper, her husband Derek, and their sons Dean and Dillon. Her nephew Benjamin Towhey and his wife Mia. Her niece Hannah Towhey. Her niece Heather Towhey. Her niece Sarah Edwards and her husband Rob. Her nephew Jason Towhey. Her niece Victoria Taylor, her husband Michael and their children Aaron, Rachel, Noah, Eve. Her nephew Denny McClure and her nephew Matt Nall. Doreen loved her big family so much, she wouldn’t want to leave anyone out. Doreen was a doting wife, mother, sister, aunt, baker and friend. In 1973, Doreen and her family moved from Ohio down to Tucker, GA where the Basile family took root. She had no idea she would fall in love with the neighbor boy around the corner who was the love of her life Dennis. She put passion into everything she did. Her marriage to Dennis, her children Kelly and James, her growing extended family, any job she did. She especially enjoyed her time at Killian Hall where she met with and worked with so many lifelong friends. At Killian Hall her creativity flourished, she made hundreds of weddings and other events so memorable. Doreen was a woman of immense faith. She was in church nearly every Sunday. In her youth she was extremely active at Holy Cross Catholic Church. She was heavily involved in the teen youth group, the choir and participated and supported in the church theater group. Later in life she and her family moved to St. John Neumann where she taught seven years of PSR. She loved the Lord so much and wanted to spread his word, that she taught so many children and helped strengthen not only her faith, but their faith. After she moved to Sugar Hill, GA, she loved going to Mass every Saturday at St. Benedicts in John’s Creek. Doreen was a fabulous cook and the family baker. At any event, she would have baked several platters of goodies and desserts. Especially at Christmas time. Doreen would spend days baking, icing, sorting, and then assembling a variety of cookies, brownies as well as other baked goods into trays. These would be given as gifts made with love that would also become a staple of every holiday gathering that generations of her family loved and continued to request. These trays have become a Towhey/Basile family holiday tradition that once done by one woman will now take a family to keep alive. Doreen put so much love in all that she did. When she discovered something, she learned everything she could about it and then would teach everyone else. Especially games. Card games, pickleball, trivia. Doreen loved to be the hostess with the mostest. She always payed attention to the finite details to everything and made sure everyone had a great time. Helping others gave her such joy. She was proud to be an advocate for those in need, she was an angel on this earth. Please join the family in celebrating her life Friday afternoon February 9, 2024 at 12:00 pm at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 801 Tom Smith Rd, Lilburn GA 30047. There will be a Rosary service in the chapel before the funeral service beginning at 11:00 am.
