Mr. George Franklin Hubbert

On May 24, 2017, George Franklin Hubbert, 73, of Johns Creek, GA, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. George was born October 3, 1943, in Winfield, AL, to Freda Smith Hubbert and Clarence Walter Hubbert who preceded him in death. George's greatest joy was his family. He was a generous and loving husband, father and grandfather always available with wit, humor and sound advice. Freda, his devoted wife of 52 years, survives him along with his beloved son, Zachary Hubbert and beloved daughter, Natalie DeFoor, as well as his cherished grandson, Hayes DeFoor, and son-in-law, Clay DeFoor. George dearly loved his brothers Henry and Joe who preceded him in death. He is survived by his dear sister, Alyce Hubbert and dear brother, Sam Hubbert (Cathy) and sister-in-law, Judy Hubbert. Also preceding him in death was his niece, Della Renee Hubbert. In the Hubbert family he is survived by nieces and nephews, Myra Hubbert, Joel Hubbert, Jamie Gilmer, Jordan Hubbert, Jennifer Patton, Jeff Couch, and Allyson Couch. George loved his wife's family as his own. His mother-in-law and father-in-law, Alma and Loyd Langston preceded him in death along with brothers-in-law, Maurice, Jimmy and Glenn Langston and Dan Mann and sister-in-law, Gaynell Langston. He is survived by sisters-in-law, Frances Beasley, Carolyn Mann, Nelda Oswalt, Myra Langston and Lurlene Langston as well as brothers-in-law, William Oswalt and Stewart Beasley. He was preceded in death by his nephews, Stewart Beasley, Jr., Tanner Smith and Daniel Goforth. In the Langston family he is survived by nieces and nephews: Candice Langston, Lisa Tucker, Amy Handley, Becky Logan, Michael Langston, Lashonne Abel, Angela Beasley, Dannie Mann, Tracie Goforth, Whitney Oswalt, and Audrey Strawbridge. George cherished his family at the Buford Church of Christ where he worked tirelessly on the grounds maintenance and anything else he was called to do. He was always ready to help an elderly person who needed to be driven for medical treatment or assistance with home repairs. The family is very grateful for the acts of kindness and prayerful support from the church. After graduating from Winfield City High School in 1962, George proudly served three years in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk in the South China Sea during the Vietnam War as well as 3 additional years in the U.S. Naval Reserve. In 1966, George began working for Creative Displays in Tuscaloosa, AL. He continued working for his dear friend and mentor, Lewis Manderson, in the outdoor advertising industry for thirty years. He was a partner in Turner Outdoor Advertising, MGH Management and president of Hubbert and Associates. George was regarded by many as a tirelessly hard-working man. He took a lot of pride in accomplishing tasks that others may have thought too difficult. While living in Tuscaloosa, George's dedication extended for many years to the Alberta Church of Christ where he gladly served as a deacon. George was a generous contributor to many causes. His favorite cause by far was the spreading of the Gospel world-wide especially in this country and South Africa. When he heard of someone in need or another worthy cause, his quick response was, "We've got to help those people", and he would follow through by taking action. He was also a donor to the University of Alabama, and he loved the Crimson Tide. George enjoyed working and traveling. Besides his family, two of his favorite traveling buddies were Graham Lemmon and Dennis Barbakow. He also took time off to play golf and tennis, but he was always anxious to 'get back on the job'. George often reminisced of his Winfield days with fond memories and funny stories about his friends and classmates. George is leaving behind many good friends he worked with during his career, two of the dearest were Lewis Manderson and Jim Rousseau who were devoted to him until the very last day of his life. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am at the Buford Church of Christ, Buford, GA, on June 23, 2017, with Scott Harp presiding. The family will receive friends at 10:00 am. Another memorial service will be held at 11:00 am at the Winfield Church of Christ, Winfield, AL, on June 24, 2017, with Scott Harp presiding. The family will receive friends at 10:00 am. George was an organ donor and was especially interested in supporting Alzheimer's research. If he could, he would ask that you contact your congressman and plead for more funding for research to find a cure for Alzheimer's. The family is especially grateful to Kelly Loula and the dedicated staff at Noble Village Memory Care, as well as Frida Palsdittir and the compassionate staff at Agape Hospice.
