Geraldine Harris Vinson

Geraldine Harris Vinson (affectionately known as “Gerrie”) was born May 4, 1939, to the late Oliver Harris and Mary Kate Berry Harris. She was the youngest of three children, preceded in birth by her sister, Dora Harris Bell and her brother the late Harrison Harris. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Geraldine was educated in the Atlanta Public School system where she actively participated in various school activities. She was a devoted follower of Christ and a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Atlanta. Geraldine attended Morris Brown College in Atlanta, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. During her college years, she was a member of the concert choir. On July 2, 1967, Geraldine Harris married William C. Vinson, the love of her life. Together they built a strong and loving marriage, raising two sons, James Ivy Vinson and William Claude Vinson II. She nurtured her family in a home grounded in faith, teaching them to love and honor God. Geraldine was a godly woman and a devoted homemaker. For over 58 years, she faithfully supported her husband and served her family with love and dedication. As a pastor’s wife, she ministered alongside her husband, exemplifying the qualities of a virtuous Christian wife and mother. She lived a life worthy of emulation, even during times of personal hardship. Despite some health challenges and life’s setbacks, she remained steadfast and never complained. Geraldine was known for her warm smile and joyful spirit. Her words of wisdom and godly counsel were always filled with grace and kindness. Geraldine was truly a joy to be around and her legacy of love, faith, and devotion to family and others will forever be cherished. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, and her younger son. Geraldine leaves to cherish her memory, her faithful and devoted husband, William C. Vinson; son, James Vinson (Valerie); daughter -in- law, Sharon Vinson; sister, Dora Bell; seven grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, GA, with Rev. Robert Benson officiating. Interment will follow at Alta Vista Cemetery, Gainesville, GA.
