Guidone (Guido) Codispoti

Guidone (Guido) Codispoti, 93, passed away with family members by his side on Saturday, April 22, 2023. Guido was born on September 6, 1929 in the small mountain town of Satriano, in Calabria, Italy. He married Giulia Fabiano on September 29, 1951, with whom Guido shared 71 years of faithful marriage. Guido took great joy in his marriage and boasted of the duration not just in years, but days, hours, and even minutes, at any given time of day. His great love for his wife, family and friends was evident to all, and it was impossible to meet Guido, and not take a liking to him, and possibly even walk away with your own bottle of homemade Limoncello. He was a giver of gifts, compliments, jokes, and all the Italian history one’s mind could absorb! Guido’s story was one of love, adventure, and accomplishment. After designing Italian military uniforms, as a highly skilled tailor, he and his family immigrated to the United States on the Christopher Columbus ship in 1961. Guido began a decades long career in New York City as a successful clothing designer. He worked with a wide range of clients, including prominent politicians and the Jackson family, designing a clothing line for Latoya Jackson as well as the pattern for Michael Jackson’s famous Thriller jacket. His work ethic was hardly matched, even into his 80’s, as he enjoyed woodworking and managed a garden that produced fig trees and his family-famous crushed red pepper. Guido was faithful man of prayer, a believer in Jesus, and loved selflessly. He never met a stranger. You could meet on the street, at a store, or a doctor’s office, and inevitably you’d have found an unforgettable friend or family figure. Guido is survived by his wife; Giulia Codispoti, children; Giuseppina Codispoti Calano (Barry) and Tony Codispoti (Maryann), grandchildren; Guido (Nancy), Vincent (Lindsay), Joseph (Christina), Anthony, Shauna (Larry), Valerie, Diana, Michael (Jana), and Vincent (Darlin), great-grandchildren; Bella, Miles, Enzo, Leo, Sofia, Mya, Bryson, Carson, Giuliana, Amelia, Vincenzo, and Valentina.
