Joyce Fewox Thomas

Joyce Fewox Thomas, beloved mother and friend to all those in her life, peacefully passed April 28, 2021. Joy passed in her home of Cumming, GA with Ronnie, Tammy and Aurora by her side at the age of 73. A Georgia resident throughout her life, Joy was a devoted wife to Ronnie for 55 years and mother to Tammy, Baby Girl Thomas (deceased), Rusty and Kaye. She was an extraordinary grandmother to Jessica, Hannah, Emily J., Sean Mike, Bryan, Heather, Finnegan, Emily H., and Madison, and great grandmother to Heath, Ansley and baby Ellie. A friend to many, all described Joy as kind, incredibly loving with an overflowing, giving spirit. Joy is best described by her eldest granddaughter, Jessica “as a kind and caring person who would bring light into the room.” Others described her as the perfect Southern lady, in every sense of the word. Joy remained dedicated to and faithful in her belief in God and the Lord Jesus Christ. She devoted much of her time and heart to helping others through charity with church, and followed her heart in helping anyone in need. Joy retired as a senior fiscal analyst from the GA Dept. of Natural Resources with 38 years of exceptional service and many distinguished awards. Joy and Ronnie enjoyed a life full of adventure, love, and laughter with family and friends. She was an excellent seamstress and craft-maker. Joy could make anything look beautiful! Her love of cooking shined in her comfort food for her family, especially her vegetable soup – it brought everyone together. Preceded in death by her daughter, Baby Girl Thomas; parents, Maxine and Harry Fewox; and brother, Morgan Fewox. Joy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ronnie Thomas; her “second’ mom, Ruth Guffard and husband, Buddy; children, Tammy and Sean O’Shaughnessy, Rusty Thomas and Kelly Hulsey and Kaye and Jon Eichner; grandchildren, Jessica and Jonny Considine, Hannah Thomas, Emily and Blake Jones, Sean Jr. and Liz O’Shaughnessy, Bryan O’Shaughnessy and Saskia Schneikart, , Heather O’Shaughnessy, Finnegan Eichner, Emily Hulsey, and Madison Hulsey; great-grandchildren, Heath Hoadley, Ansley Considine, and Eleanor O’Shaughnessy; several cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews. The family will receive friends at Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford, GA on Friday, June 18, 2021 from 6pm-8pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 2pm in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home. A reception will follow at the home of Tammy and Sean O'Shaughnessy. Flowers and/or memorial contributions to The Shriner's Hospital are equally welcome.
