Born on October 26, 1956, to Mary Joyce Hines and Donald Ray Stewart, Sr., she was a cherished daughter and beloved elder sister to her brother, Donald Ray, Jr.. Growing up as a dedicated ballerina and dancer, Mary Patrice found her highest joy in expressing herself through the art of movement. Her grace and passion on the dance floor left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to witness it. Her creativity extended into a love for crafting through various mediums including fiber arts, jewelry making, and painting. Mary Patrice became an educator in the arts and even opened her own dance studio, the Scottsboro Dance Academy. Mary Patrice was a beacon of inspiration to her students, sharing her knowledge with genuine enthusiasm. Her commitment to influencing young minds left an enduring legacy. In 1978, Mary Patrice graduated with a B.A. in Humanities from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Following her college graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Wayne Perry Buchheit. They navigated life together for two decades before ultimately choosing to pursue separate paths. During their union, Mary Patrice and Wayne bore two children: an elder son, Michael Arthur, and a daughter, Mary Rachel. Mary Patrice's remarkable expression of love for her children was an undoubtable force that shaped their lives. As a keeper of plants and animals, Mary Patrice found solace and companionship in tending to the green, furry, and feathered friends she welcomed into her home over the years. Her kindness and care for nature reflected a sense of compassion for all living beings. Mary Patrice's life was steadfastly bonded in the beliefs of the Christian church, where she sought comfort, guidance, and community. Her spiritual journey was marked by conviction in her beliefs, and she found solace in the power of prayer. Mary Patrice turned to her faith as a source of strength. Her commitment to understanding her Christian values infused every aspect of her life, fostering a sense of purpose and resilience that inspired those around her. The echoes of her prayers will linger in our hearts as a testament to the faith that guided her. May her soul find eternal peace in the embrace of the faith she held so dearly.
