Mateo Estacion Caymol, "Matt"

Mateo Estacion Caymol, "Matt", 75, previously of Goose Creek, SC, passed away peacefully at Embracing Care Hospice, near his current home in Suwanee, GA, at 10:25pm on Monday, October 6, after a valiant fight against lung cancer. "Matt", as his friends called him, was born on Sept 30, 1939, in Cavite City, Philippines. He was the youngest of 5 children to Ramon Sr. and Basilia Estacion Caymol. Matt joined the US Navy at age 17, where he served this country for 28 years. He was a highly decorated soldier and received many commendations. Among those were The National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Battle "E" (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal, the Sixth Good Conduct Award, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Navy Achievement Medal and the distinguished Navy Silver Star. He finished his distinguished career in the Navy as a multi-award winning US Navy Recruiter, and was twice named "Recruiter of the Year". Matt also enjoyed being a member of the American Legion of Buford, the American Legion of Goose Creek and was a member of the Filipino-American Masons. Above all of his medals, certificates, commendations and awards, he considered his greatest achievement his family. He spent many hours talking about his grandchildren to anyone who would listen. Matt is survived by his wife, Carolyn Church Caymol, his daughter Angela (Rick) Schuckle, daughter Pam Badger, son Mateo (Angie Ammons) Caymol, grandchildren, Caroline Badger, William Schuckle, Luke Badger, Logan Caymol, Alexandria Schuckle, Matthew Caymol and Drew Caymol, siblings Vely Ylanan, Jun (Lil) Caymol, Nilda Werhle, and his loving nieces and nephews Lena, Lorna, Bill, Chris, Jim, Erik, Steve and Jeff. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct 11, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Flanigan Funeral Home. The visitation will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Both the visitation and memorial service will be held at Flanigan Funeral Home, 4400 South Lee Street, Buford, GA 30518, 770-932-1133. A Military funeral will take place on November 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
