Mr. Clarence A. Roberts

Clarence Allen "CR" Roberts passed away on January 8, 2016. He was born on September 15, 1938 in Columbus, GA. CR graduated from Auburn University and was a Sigma Nu. He married Mary Ann Beard in 1964 and had three children, Leanne, Mark and Dana. After serving in the Army Reserves as a medic for seven years, Clarence dedicated his career to the wood products industry and gave many years of service to US Plywood, Jim Walter Homes, Masonite and International Paper. He was recognized as Salesman of the Year multiple times and won numerous other accolades in the industry. CR was the first salesperson for a customized wood product known as MDF, an industry born in the U.S., while working for Celotex. He is revered by those he worked with and his customers. CR's favorite things include time with his family, Auburn sports, politics and scrambled dogs. He pitched on a fast pitch softball league while in college and coached little league sports while his children were young. CR's favorite quotes will always ring in his children's ears "life is hard yard by yard, inch by inch it's a cinch" and "the only thing constant is change." Needless to say, his family's life will forever be changed. Clarence will be deeply missed by his wife of fifty-one years, Mary Ann Roberts, his daughter, Leanne Roberts (Hiram, GA), son, Mark Roberts (Duluth, GA), daughter, Dana Hoey (Jenks, OK) and his grandchildren, Hayes Hoey, Olivia Hoey, Payton Roberts, Jeremy Hammonds, Allie Brown, Emma Hoey, Anna Grace Hoey and Rebecca Roberts. The grandchildren will miss their Grandy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allie and Fletcher Roberts. A memorial service honoring his life will be held on Saturday, January 16th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Marietta Educational Garden Center in Marietta, GA.
