Myra Nell Lance McDaniel

It is with deep sadness and full hearts that we announce the passing of Myra Nell Lance McDaniel, formerly of Sugar Hill, GA, on November 25, 2025. Surrounded by her children, she departed life with the same quiet strength, faith and grace that defined her life for nine beautiful decades. Myra devoted her life to the service of others – her family, her church and her friends. Her gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her. Whether singing joyfully in the church choir or lending a helping hand wherever needed, she offered her gifts with a humble heart. From raising her three children, caring for her ailing parents, and later, Kenneth, her beloved husband, to helping raise her grandchild, Anton, Myra spent over 60 years tending to the needs of her family. Her selflessness and grace are a beautiful testament to the love she poured on us all. Neighborhood kids could always count on a cold drink and a snack at “Miss Myra’s.” She delighted in entertaining her children’s friends, and no one ever left hungry. For years her home and backyard rang with the sounds of baseball games and evening rounds of hide-and-seek. “Miss Myra” could always be counted on to provide a jar for collecting lightning bugs. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. She nurtured friendships with ladies who shared those same gifts; they could fill a room with joy and laughter. Her friends Jane, Andrea, Marcella and the neighborhood “Lunch Ladies” meant so much to her, and she cherished her time with them. Myra’s flower garden was a wonder; although small, it held delights and surprises everywhere. It held flowers from the gardens of treasured friends and family, as well as plants carefully collected and placed. She’d always request, “Let’s walk down to the garden to see what’s blooming,” or “Let me show you something;” that something always being a new bloom on a lily or hydrangea she’d discovered. One of the greatest joys in her life was singing in her church choir. Whether practicing the songs for the next Sunday’s service or singing along to hymns on the stereo, our home was filled with music. In the latter stages of her illness, music became her solace. Recognizing faces was difficult for her, but she could remember the words to every hymn from her childhood and sang them with joy and verve. Her legacy of faith, kindness and love will continue to bloom in all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, W. Kenneth McDaniel, Sr.; her parents, Homer F. and Winnie Padgett Lance; her siblings Joyce Lance Grogan (Harold); Lamar Lance (Pat) and Wendell Lance (Yvonne). She is survived by her children, Ken McDaniel, Jr. (Connie) of Fernandina Beach, FL, Ann McDaniel Christianson (Ric) of Pendergrass, Ga, and Lynn McDaniel of Atlanta, GA; grandson, Anton Foster (Ashley) of Mechanicsburg, PA; sisters-in-law Sue McDaniel Tribble (Jim) and Sara McDaniel of Cumming, GA; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 6th at Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, GA. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with service to follow at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home Chapel. A private interment will follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her honor to the charity of your choice.
