Peggy Thomas McCord

Peggy Thomas McCord, born June 8, 1934, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother (Mimi), great-grandmother, girlfriend, aunt, cousin and friend peacefully passed away with Agape hospice care on August 21, 2024, in the loving Senior Home Mission personal care home in Lawrenceville, GA. She recently celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends there. She is survived by Donald Hayes, her elementary school boyfriend whom she reunited with seven years ago; her two children and their spouses, David Lance (Amy) McCord and Lynn (Ted) Ashburn; nine grandchildren, Angel McCord, AnnaLynne McCord, Rachel (Rick) Schirmer, Brooke (Eric) Lusk, Heather (Tyler) Trump, Trey (Caroline) Felt, Jonathan McCord, Meredith Ashburn, and Ali Ashburn; two great grandchildren, Jude Schirmer and Emma Lusk. (She loved her babies!!) She is preceded by her parents, Lee Sanders Thomas and Etoyle Haynes Thomas and her sisters, Beverly McGee and Gail Cooper. Divorced after 35 years of marriage to her deceased former husband, William Larry McCord, her new life of adventures began. Peggy was born at St. Joseph’s Infirmary in Atlanta, GA. She was raised on Parker Avenue in Decatur and attended Southwest Dekalb Highschool. She joined Mt. Carmel Chrisitan Church on Candler Road when she was 16 and was a lifelong member until the church was rebranded as MC3. She moved her membership to Lilburn Christian Church in March 2022 and continued to fellowship with friends over lunch after the services. She has many devoted friends from school, her neighborhoods and church. She was an active member of the Ladies Aid ministry and bowling leagues for most of her life. She enjoyed crocheting, antiquing, home shopping, slot machine gambling, and cruises. She had high hopes to be a Friday morning balloon receiving Clearinghouse Sweepstakes winner so she could share the proceeds with her family. She was committed to the daily reading of her Bible as she rode her stationary bike; and she took her vitamin supplements just as religiously. She had her hair dressed weekly by Lynn Moncrief, who is considered a second daughter. She loved to present herself with beautiful makeup, jewelry and clothes always ordained with a brooch. Her skin and smile were remarkably beautiful. Peggy was greatly loved by all that knew her. She is already deeply missed. Although we are mourning her loss here, we take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering and is in her final home with the Lord Jesus Christ. Interment will follow (at 2:00 p.m.) at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge, GA. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 29 at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service at 11:00 a.m.
