Phyllis Patricia Roberts Sully

On Thursday, May 21, 2026, Phyllis “Pat” Roberts Sully and beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away. She was ninety-one. Phyllis Patricia Roberts was born to James Reed Roberts and Elmira “Elma” Cain Roberts on Feb 20, 1935. With ten sisters and one brother, Pat came last. She graduated from Soddy-Daisy High School, Tennessee in 1953. She and Charles Sully were married in 1956. She remained a faithful, loving wife and mother. Pat grew up in hard times by today’s standards on a small family farm without running water and electricity in Soddy Daisy Tennessee. She also worked most of her adult life beginning at an early age. She joined Southern Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator in the mid nineteen fifties. Later she worked at the Alamance County Courthouse and the welfare department in Graham, North Carolina in various capacities. Later, she rejoined the Bell System working as a drafting clerk in Atlanta, Georgia. She retired from Bell South in the mid 1990’s. After retirement, she and husband Charles would travel by car and motorcycle to different places in the US. She also spent many hours cross-stitching and knitting things for her family as well as digging up the yard and planting many flowers and bushes that all did very well, even to this day. Pat enjoyed going to church, reading, birdwatching, cross-stitching, listening to music, photography, and riding motorcycles with husband Charles. She loved and was loved by all of her family members and had many friends throughout her life. On more than one occasion she travelled to interesting places including Costa-Rica to view all types of birds. Pat is survived by two children: Herbie and Carol, daughter-in-law: Nancy Sully, son-in-law: Brandon Jakes, grandchildren: Jessica Sully, Melissa Williamson (Jason), Laura Davis (Ben), Hank Sully (Christina Littleton) and Brandon Sully, great grandchildren: Kabir Sully Grover, Adeep Sully Grover, Thaddaeus Davis, Ember Davis and Gabriel Davis. There are very many surviving nieces, nephews and cousins from the direct descendants of the Roberts family and Sully family by marriage. To honor her memory, daughter Carol wrote the following poem: Gardens were her Sanctuary, she tended every day. The singing birds her Opera, of which she would sing and sway. The trees, the land, her guiding hand, she taught me how to pray. Sweet mother, my Mama your beautiful spirit and sweet face, so fortunate we were to know.
