Richard Vance Powers

Richard Vance Powers (83) of Sylvester, GA Born on Dec. 20 1932 in Lansing Michigan, went to be with our God on April 21, 2016. Vance was preceded in death by his first wife Jean A. Sisco Powers of Sylvester, Father Clifton Powers, Mother Inez Powers, Brother Neal Powers and Son Grant Adams. He is survived by ex-wife Jane A. O'Brien Powers, 7 children Cindy Loo (Jorge), Cherie Janinda (John), David Powers (Lisa), Dwight Powers, Clifton Powers (Melody), Dale Adams (Carmen) and Randy Adams (Michelle). He is also survived by 13 beautiful grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Mr. Powers was a graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Business and Marketing; where one of his proudest moments was marching in the band during the Rose Bowl football game. He was an avid Spartan Fan and stayed active in the alumni association, attending his 50th class reunion a few years ago. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and continued his passion for flying over the years. Vance and his wife Jean Ann, moved to the Albany, GA area in 1962 where he was employed by Detroiter Mobile Homes. In the late 1963 he moved to Sylvester, GA. Mr. Powers, along with his close friend and business partner Leroy Cooper, became pioneers for economic growth and employment in the mobile home manufacturing industry for Sylvester by establishing Craftmade Homes, Sabre Homes and later Housing Brokers in Albany. He was very active in the Worth County Music Boosters where his children followed in his love of music. He was craftsman who loved to build things from lawnmowers, to homes, to factories. He loved to travel, play golf and study history.
