Sue Sears Southerland

Sue Sears Southerland, age 85, of Buford, Georgia passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty four years, Verlon C. Southerland; sons, Verlon "Chip" Southerland, Jr., Barry Andrew Southerland; parents, W. Earl and Alma Roberts Sears; brother, William E. (Bud) Sears III; brothers and sisters in law, James D. "Herbie" Wilson, Waylon "Red" and Patricia Southerland, Joe Southerland; nephews, W.E. "Wes" Sears, Jeremy R. Davis. She is survived by sister, Elinor S. Wilson; sister and brother in law, Lynne S. and Tommy Davis; sister in law, Beverly M. Sears; brother and sister in law, Billy and Mary Jo Southerland; Nieces, Paula and Ron Bennett, Julie and Mike McBryant, Jill Anderson, Emily and Dr. Dave Warlick, Susan and Kevin Sharp, Terry and Bob Lawson; nephew, Mike and Sally Southerland; many great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Southerland was born October 9, 1933 in Buford, Georgia. After graduation, she was employed by Liberty Mutual Insurance, General Motors and General Tire and Rubber. She married Verlon in April, 1955 and welcomed the birth of their sons, Chip and Barry. Later she began pursuit of a degree in education in order to work with children. She achieved that goal with a Specialist Degree in Education and taught at Sugar Hill Elementary and Harmony Elementary until she retired. Retirement offered many options for Sue and Verlon, spending time at their cabin in the mountains, traveling throughout the USA and Canada in their motor home and serving in various offices of the Holiday Rambler and Georgia Mountaineers Camping Clubs. Through the years of working, studying and traveling they made many friends, who along with their families gave them much love and support. These years provided many cherished memories for her later years. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. Interment to follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens.
