William James "Jim" Stuber

Following a very active life in two hemispheres, William James "Jim" Stuber passed away at home on January 30, 2015 in Gainesville, Georgia. Born on May 15, 1928 in Rochester, New York, Jim was the son of the late Ruth (Chapman) and Adolph Stuber of Rochester and Naples, Florida. The Stuber family were early pioneers in photography in Louisville, KY, and with the Eastman Kodak Company of Rochester, NY. Jim's grandfather, William George Stuber, succeeded George Eastman as President and Chairman of the Board, and his father served as a Director and Vice-President of Marketing before retiring to Naples in 1955. After attending the Allendale School in Rochester, Jim graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy, New Hampshire. He then attended Princeton University, and graduated from the University of Rochester in 1950, where he became President of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Following graduation, Jim served in the U. S. Naval Reserve from 1950 - 1955. Jim held the position of Graphic Arts Advertising Manager of Eastman Kodak Company from 1950 - 1960, before serving as President of Arrows Restaurants, Division of Richardson Foods, until 1967. He was also a partner of National Zip Presort; Owner of the Antique Guild at Pittsford, NY; a New Zealand Venison Broker; and, from 1967 until 1983, Jim was a Stockbroker with Tucker, Anthony and R. L. Day, NYSE in Rochester. For over twenty years, Jim was a resident of Naples, FL; and also a part time resident of Tauranga, New Zealand, where he enjoyed numerous friends and business interests, including deer farming and thoroughbred race horses. He also enjoyed classical music and the fine arts. Jim was a pianist, and composed several songs, with lyrics of his own. In 2006, Jim and his wife, Lori, retired to Lanier Village Estates in Gainesville, GA. Jim was a member of the Gainesville First United Methodist Church, GA; the Cashiers United Methodist Church, NC; and the Country Club of Sapphire Valley, NC. He was formerly a member of the Country Club of Rochester, NY; Genesee Valley Club; Naples Yacht Club; and the Port Royal Club of Naples. Jim was also a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International; a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, and was a charter Seat Endower of the Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts. Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Lori Keller Stuber, of Gainesville, GA and Sapphire Valley, NC; three children, William Charles Stuber (Irene) of Northwood, Ohio; James Douglas Stuber (Kwang Suk Park) of Chapel Hill, NC; and Michel Delmar of Rochester, NY; a step-daughter, Nancy Keller Hunseder (Mark) of Sierra Vista, AZ; eleven grandchildren, David Reid Stuber of Tacoma, WA; James Hyuntay Stuber of Chapel Hill, NC; Samantha Nicole, Heather Lauren and Carington Michel Stuber, all of Rocester, NY; Mic Regis and Jerald Stuber of Northwood, Ohio; Blaise Alexander Stetson of Dunedin, FL; and Kristin Nicole, Kurt Michael and Matthew Alan Keller, all of Naples, FL, in addition to four great grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Adolph Stuber, and daughter, Nancy Lyn Stuber, a grandson, Charles Walter Cecil Stuber; a sister, Marjorie "Dibby" Cleveland; and a stepson, Walter Michael Keller. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 14, 2015 in the McGill-Scarbrough Memorial Chapel of Lanier Village Estates, 4000 Village View Drive, Gainesville, GA 30506. Interment will be held at a later date in Naples, FL.
