George S. "Sam" Brockway, II of Lawrenceville, GA., passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at the age of 73. He was a businessman, inventor, teacher, pastor, husband, father, brother, and friend. He operated a plastics manufacturing and engineering business in Lawrenceville for more than 20 years. His professional career started at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA., and later he worked for Bell Laboratories in Norcross, GA. He held a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Miami, a M.S. in Engineering Mechanics from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a PhD in Applied Mechanics from the California Institute of Technology. Sam, along with his co-inventors, held several patents for a safety syringe. He taught engineering at Texas A&M University in College Station and served as an adjunct professor at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. He enjoyed playing the piano, and as a young man wrote music. He touched many lives as an Associate Pastor and Pastor of a Christian Church in Lawrenceville for nearly 20 years. He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Cheryl G. Brockway, Lawrenceville; children, Buzz and Christa Brockway, Lawrenceville, GA, Babs Brockway, San Francisco, CA and Stephen and Anissa Brockway, Melbourne, Australia; six grandchildren, Hope, Grace and Joy Brockway, and Alina, Silas and Astrid Brockway; three sisters, Phyllis Daniel, Lake Park, GA, Ann Duffy, Conyers, GA and Margaret Rockett, Fairhope, AL. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church, 800 Lawrenceville Hwy., Lawrenceville, GA 30046. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Atlanta Mission Homeless Shelter, 2353 Bolton Rd., N.W., Atlanta, GA 30318 in memory of Sam Brockway. Sam loved the Lord his God with all his heart, mind, soul, and strength, as evidenced in his interactions with everyone he met.
