Ira Goodwin Glisson

LAWRENCEVILLE - Ira Goodwin Glisson, 77, died unexpectedly August 6, 2020 at Northside Gwinnett Hospital. He was born January 22, 1943 in Griffin, GA the son of William (Bill) Goodwin and Edmonia (Mona) Ward Glisson. Ira attended Druid Hills High School and received his GED. He entered the U.S. Marines at age 17 and served for four years. He later attended Southern Poly Tech in Marietta, GA. In 1967, he joined the U.S. Navy and served for 12 years. He married the love of his life with whom he recently celebrated 51 full years of marriage. He worked in the IT field until his retirement in 2009. He loved fishing, boating, sailing, reading and watching science fiction. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Mona Glisson of Griffin, GA. He is survived by his wife, Myrle (Murty) Glisson his 5 children and their spouses, Shelene and Stephen Taylor (Monroe, GA), Debra and Joe LaRoss (Colorado Springs, CO), John Glisson (Colorado Springs, CO), Matthew Glisson (Colorado Springs, CO) and Rachael Glisson (Athens, GA), 14 grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher and Ally Taylor, Kyra and Jesse Shady, Tabitha, Teresa, Gabriella, Isabell, Keylon, Alfredo, LaSean, McKinsey, and Jacob Taylor, Haley, Logan and Hanna LaRoss, one great-grandchild, Allure, one sister Janet and brother-in-law Joel Robertson (Cumming, GA), many nieces and nephews as well as 12 grand dogs. A Mass of Remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 12 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 6439 Spout Springs Rd, Flowery Branch, GA 30542. A memorial in his name may be made to Prince of Peace Saint Vincent DePaul Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
