Our Loving Pat Stroup Patrick “Pat” Stroup, age 66, of Buford, GA passed away Friday, October 23, 2020. He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Stroup and mother, Jean Marie Stroup. He is survived by his son, Travis and Jessica Stroup, Lawrenceville, GA; father and stepmother, Eugene and Mary Frances Stroup, Athens, GA; brother, Michael Eugene and Dorsey A. Stroup, Athens, GA; aunts, Tinsey Rickman, Canton, NC, Audrey and Wayne Howell, Christiansburg, VA, Cleida Stroup; uncle, Danny W. and Georgianne Stroup, Canton, NC; nieces, Allison and Chip Clarke, Colbert, GA; Amy and Bill Loeber, Newnan, GA; and several cousins and other relatives. Our Pat displayed an unbreakable character and selflessness that are extremely rare traits in our world today. Everything Pat undertook was done with excellence and with an overarching purpose of bettering the lives of someone else. His generosity and sacrificial love for others is a beacon to those who want to know how to express Christlike love. There is no better place to look to witness the depth of Pat’s love than his relationship with his sons, Travis and Matthew. Although Matthew left us at young age, he remained in Pat’s heart and mind. If you got into a conversation with Pat, it would unfailingly be directed to what was happening in Travis’s life and his many accomplishments. They shared the love of fishing, hunting, college football and so much more, and he never failed to use their outings as teachable moments to develop Travis’s character. With Pat, his family came first and his generosity and compassion gave clear evidence of this. Pat is a 1972 graduate of Oglethorpe County High School. As a professional, Pat performed at the highest levels with every task that he undertook. He served his country as Air Force Radio Communications and Precision Measuring Equipment Specialists for six years, during which time he earned several awards and medals including a National Defense Service Medal. In civilian life, he became an electronics instructor at the Denver Institute of Technology (Denver, CO) for one year until moving to Georgia to accept a position as a Metrology Engineer at Rockwell International’s Missile Systems Division, Duluth. Rockwell management’s recognition of his leadership skills rapidly elevated him to Metrology Section Supervisor. During the final twelve years of his professional life, Pat became a high-performing Technical Sales Representative with Sun Force, a test equipment integration contractor to the Air Force. In his free time, Pat enjoyed watching movies and could always be counted-on to provide a funny quote, complete with a character’s voice, that would fit any moment. Pat’s encouraging smile and willingness to take time for what really matters will be greatly missed. His upbeat spirit and devotion to others is being shared in Heaven at this moment. Our Pat, we love and miss you beyond expression. To protect fragile family members, attendees should wear face masks and practice social distancing. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Center United Methodist Church Cemetery in Stephens, GA with Pastor Nolen Wood officiating.
