Richard Philip Chabot of Buford, Georgia passed away peacefully on August 26, 2018, at the age of 80, surrounded by his family. Dick was born in Laconia, New Hampshire on May 15, 1938 and was raised in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1956, where he played basketball. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from University of New Hampshire and then his Masters of Education from Fitchburg State College. He also attended summer programs at Penn State and Brown University. His teaching career started at Fitchburg High School, where he taught biology for 5 years and also met his wife. Then for 25 years, he taught Chemistry and Bio-Chemistry at Oakmont Regional High School in Ashburnham, Massachusetts, where he also served as Science Department Chairman for 17 years. Dick was selected as teacher who made a significant contribution to the students' education 6 years in a row. During a 10-year break from teaching, he was the co-owner of Dan's Pine Shop in Baldwinville, Massachusetts. His many summers as a teacher were spent at his in-laws in Salem, New Hampshire where he worked on the family's farm and was affectionately known as "Woody" or "Woodman." He leaves his wife of 50 years, Janice (Donabedian) Chabot of Buford, Georgia , his daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Joshua Flammer, also of Buford, Georgia, his 2 granddaughters, Sadie Ellen and Piper Jaye, and his sister Lorraine Gordon of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Dick will be sadly missed by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Shirley & Haz Essegian, Peggy Donabedian & George Boyajian, Ginny Chudoba, Larry & Carole Donabedian, Kenny & Carol Donabedian, Jay & Lisa Donabedian. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Wilfrid Joseph Chabot and Alice Dargy Chabot, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Suren & Vicki Donabedian, his niece Mary Gordon, his nephew Drew Donabedian and his brother-in-law Bob Chudoba. Dick will be always remembered for his love of sports, all the hours he spent working in his yard, and the great care he took of his granddaughters before and after school. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life party will be scheduled at a later time. Donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in the memory of Richard Chabot.
