Adelaide Jeaneth Thomas

Adelaide Jeaneth Thomas passed away on June 24th, 2016. "Jean" as she was commonly known to most was born on October 3rd 1932, the tenth of twelve children to John(Foster) and Leota Prevost(Besty). In her youth she was a smart hardworking young lady who was loved by all who encountered her. After completing her primary education, she followed in her big sister, Doreen's, footsteps and became a seamstress. In 1959 she married Tyrell Ambrose Thomas and their union produced six(6) children: Maurison, Hillary (Tilly), Johnson, Vanessa, Christine & Ronald. She loved being a mother and was at every event/activity any of her children participated in. She made matching outfits for the boys in their toddler years and the girls would be seen in similar outfits only differing in color. Jean was heavily involved in the SDA church and spent many years as an active member of the choir. Her charitable nature led her to become a valuable member of the Roseau Red Cross. She was integrally involved in numerous events and training held by her local chapter of the Red Cross. Her call to civic duty led her to her position as the voting registrar for the lower goodwill area. She held that position while managing a small grocery store until she migrated to the USA in 1990. In the US, She continued fulfilling her desire to help the needy and helpless by obtaining a nursing assistant certification and working for the organization "Partners in Care". Here, she was also loved by all she took care off and was offered the job of personal assistant by one of her patients when she decided to leave that organization. Jean spent all of her life being a loving calming soul. She would welcome all who visited her home with open arms, feed , clothe and provide whatever comfort they needed at the time. She was fondly known as "Aunty Jean, Miss Jean, Ma TATs&Ma Tom" to most because she was a mother to ALL. To all who knew her, she would have a holistic remedy to any aliment. She whole heartily believed in a healthy lifestyle which kept her in the best of health until the end. She is left to mourn by her six (6) beloved children, four(4) daughters-in-law, one(1) son-in-law, 18 grand-children, 5 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, 2 brothers and a host of relatives and friends. May her soul rest in peace. Adelaide Jeaneth Thomas, age 83, of Buford, GA passed away on Friday, June 24, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ambrose Thomas. She is survived by her children, Maurison and Katherine Thomas, Buford, GA, Hillary and Avis Thomas, Dominica, West Indies, Johnson and Avril Thomas, Dominica, West Indies, Vanessa and Andre Thomas-Henry, Queens, NY, Christine Thomas, Queens, NY and Ronald and Tosca Thomas, Peachtree Corners, GA; eighteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sisters, Zena Williams, Brooklyn, NY, Myrtle Prevost, Brooklyn, NY and Leonie Pacquette, London, England; brother, Newton Prevost, Davenport, FL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, July 2, 2016 from 12:00 noon until time of service.
