Bobby Wayne Martin

Bobby Wayne Martin, affectionately known as "Coach," passed away peacefully at his home on January 10, 2025. Born May 21, 1940, in Albertville, Alabama, he was the beloved son of Eunice C. Martin and Robert Lyman Martin. A proud member and athlete of the Albertville High School’s Class of 1958, Bobby began his journey of service and dedication early in life. From 1958 to 1964, he served his country with honor in the United States Army. Following his military service, Bobby pursued higher education at Sneed State Community College and Jacksonville State University, earning his degree in 1968. During his college years, he continued playing baseball and began what would become a lifelong passion for coaching by mentoring Little League teams. Bobby devoted his professional career to education and mentorship as a high school teacher and coach in Cobb County and Fulton County Schools in Georgia. His commitment to shaping young minds and fostering athletic talent left an indelible mark on countless students and athletes. Whether in the classroom or on the field, Bobby’s enthusiasm for teaching and coaching was unmatched, and he took great pride in helping others reach their potential. Among his many roles, he was especially fond of teaching Driver's Education, where his vibrant spirit shone brightly. After retiring from Fulton County Schools, Bobby embraced a fulfilling retirement that reflected his industrious nature and love for learning. He taught himself how to install lawn sprinklers—a pursuit he enjoyed until his "old knees" encouraged him to explore other hobbies. He developed a passion for old Dodge Trucks and began collecting and restoring them. His final restoration, The Lil Red Express, sits proudly in his basement garage. He then turned to woodworking and carving, crafting beautiful pieces that he shared with family and friends. Ever the teacher, Bobby passed along his woodworking skills to his grandson Jordan, ensuring that his love for the craft would continue through future generations. Later in life, Bobby developed a passion for genealogy and social media. Through Facebook, he delighted in reconnecting with former friends and students, cherishing the opportunity to stay connected with those whose lives he had touched over the years. Bobby was a Christian, a somewhat quiet man, who "Walked the Walk of God" every day. Bobby will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his wife and home, his boundless energy, and the positive influence he had on so many lives. His legacy as a dedicated husband, mentor, coach, and friend will live on through the countless individuals who were fortunate enough to know him. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Eunice C. Martin and Robert Lyman Martin and a sister Belinda Martin Brennan. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Sue; children Debby (Greg) Smith of Powder Springs, Georgia; Sheila (Larry) Hinderliter of Dunnellon, Florida; and Scott L. Martin of Senoia, Georgia; sister Beverly (Mike) Edwards; nephew Sid (Cindy) Theus; nieces Dawn (Barry) Peeples and Shannon Theus; cousins Connie Baird Jenkins (Charles), Kathy Baird Bearden, and Jatavia (Terry)TayIor; six grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; nine great-nieces and nephews; and the many former students and athletes who held a very special place in his heart. May Bobby's memory bring comfort to all who knew him and serve as an enduring reminder of a life well lived. The family will receive friends at Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, GA on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Flowers are appreciated or donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Bobby Wayne Martin.
