Clarence H. Johnson Sr.

Today we pause to reflect on the well-lived life of Clarence Harold Johnson Sr, affectionately known as Brotha, Lighting, CJ, Daddy, Pa,Pa, and many other nicknames. He was born on September 6, 1938, in Buford, Georgia, and departed this earthly life on November 26, 2022. He was born to the late Clyde and Virginia Johnson, and Clarence was a beloved and devoted husband and father. He graduated from Greenard-Watson High School in 1956 and married Irene Estelle Young of Gainesville, GA, in 1960, and to this union were born five children. With his ever-expanding family to support, he took a job with General Motors, working on the assembly line building cars. He was serious about making extra money to support his family, resulting in him becoming an entrepreneur and working for the Buford City School system. Clarence became one of Buford's real estate moguls owning and renting many properties. In 1990 he retired from General Motors at the age of 52 but continued working in the Buford City School System for a few more years before retiring from there as well. In October 1993, he married Gloria (Goldie) Goss and added to the Johnson clan with her three children. Clarence and Goldie were married for an incredible 29 years. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Virginia Johnson; his first wife, Irene Young-Johnson, his brothers Leonard, Leon, William, and Clyde; his sister, Bobbie Blakely; and one granddaughter, Tyler M. Bennett. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Gloria Johnson; five children, Clarence H. Johnson, Jr (Genice) of Lilburn, GA; Anita Reid of Duluth, GA; Dwane Johnson Bennett of Flowery Branch, GA.; Dewaine Johnson (Dawn) of Snellville, GA; Ann Harris (Erskin) of Kennessaw, GA. Three bonus children, Dejuan Collins (Vanessa), Teja (Tot) Collins, and Kier (Kiki) Collins, all of Buford, GA. Two brothers, James L. Johnson (Delores) and Lionel Johnson (Shirley), also of Buford, GA. Three additional sisters-in-law, Betty Johnson and Beatrice Johnson of Buford, GA. and Beverly Johnson of Jackson County. Thirteen grandchildren, Six Great-Grandchildren, Mother-in-law Claudine Goss Randolph of Buford, Ga., and a host of family and friends. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Poplar Hill Baptist Church, 234 East Shadburn Ave., Buford, GA with Pastor Avery Headd and Rev. Eddie Bailey officiating.
