David "Dave" Brackman

This is the story of David Brackman. Dave was a wonderful man that was loved by many. He will be missed, and will always be cherished and remembered. He was an amazing husband, father, brother, and BPaw. His story began on April 13, 1952. He was born in Peru, IL to Korral and Willa Brackman, with two older sisters, Judy and Jill. This is where he spent his childhood, where he made lifelong friends, and graduated from LaSalle-Peru Township High School in 1970. When he was 20 years old, he moved to Athens, Georgia. This is where he met the love of his life, Diane Brock, and graduated from Athens Technical College with a diploma in Graphic Arts. On June 12, 1976, Dave and Diane were married. They both worked hard on Dave's first business, Athens Quick Print. In 1980, Dave and Diane had identical twin daughters, Amy and Dena. Dave had an entrepreneurial spirit and continued to own his own printing businesses. He owned Brackman Printing and later Gwinnett Press. In Dave's retirement, he started a self-defense business called Self Defense ATL where he sold non-lethal products. Dave's hobbies included working out, hiking, and traveling. His main joys included spending time with his family. He spent most summers at Lake Hartwell with family and friends. He loved riding on the boat, water skiing, and giving everyone a memorable ride on the tube. His favorite vacation was snow skiing out west. He loved skiing in deep powder and in the trees. His favorite resort was Steamboat Springs, CO. He loved his family dearly and was highly involved. He always coached Amy and Dena's softball and basketball teams. Dave's five grandchildren (Cameron, Mason, Harper, Dillon, and Zoey) were his heart and joy. There's no denying that his grands were some of his favorite people. Spending time at PBaw's house was very special for the kids. He loved taking them to fun places and creating special memories. He took them to Six Flags, Dollywood, the beach, Great Wolf Lodge, Lake Lanier Water Park, snow skiing, the lake, and countless trampoline and bounce house parks. He spent his days attending their softball, baseball, lacrosse, and football games. Although Dave lived in Georgia, he still had family in other states. The distance never kept him from staying in touch with his extended family, including, Chris Brackman, Kevin Kurth, and John Flahaut. They were a big part of Dave's life. Dave passed away in Cumming, Georgia at the age of 70. Dave went to be with the Lord surrounded by his loved ones after a battle with HLH. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Korral and Willa Brackman; sister, Judy Flahaut; brother-in-law, Howard Flahaut. He is survived by his wife, Diane Carol Brackman, Cumming, GA; daughters, Amy Burdette, Cumming, GA, Dena and Adam Clements, Jefferson, GA; former son-in-law, Cory Burdette, Cumming, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Jill and Tim Taylor, Hoschton, GA; grandchildren, Cameron Burdette, Mason Burdette, Dillon Burdette, Harper Clements, Zoey Clements; also many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Cumming, 1597 Sawnee Dr., Cumming, GA 30040, with Pastor Rick Kuter officiating. All family and friends are welcomed for light refreshments to be served afterwards. The family welcomes flowers or donations to the Immune Deficiency Foundation (primaryimmune.org) in honor of the rare disease of HLH, an immune deficiency, and Dave's granddaughters who are affected by common variable immune deficiency
