Glad A. Sudderth

Gladston Arthur Sudderth, age 95, of Buford, GA peacefully passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife of seventy years, Ann Buice Sudderth; parents, Erskin Weber Sudderth and Georgia Poss Sudderth; brothers, James, Grady, Leon, Bill, Kenneth, and Joel Sudderth; and brother-in-law, Milton Pitts. Mr. Sudderth is survived by his children, Cereta Ann Sudderth, of Buford, GA, Peggy Sudderth Sansing and husband, Sandy of Pensacola, FL, Lamar Sudderth and wife, Beth, of Buford, GA; grandchildren, Stephanie Sansing White and husband, Frank, David Robert Sansing and wife, Lauren, Matthew David Sudderth and wife, Ali, and Andrew Parks Sudderth; great grandchildren, Henry, Clayton, and Wesley White, and Webb and Julianne Sansing; sisters, Wynell Pitts, of Birmingham, AL, Barbara Sudderth Pass and husband, Sammy, of Buford, GA, brother and sister-in-law, Winton Sudderth and wife, Trellis, of Buford, GA; brother-in-law, Maron Buice; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Sudderth Mauldin, Linda Gillespie, Barbara Sudderth; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Sudderth was born on September 23, 1922 in Buford, GA. He graduated in 1942 from the Sugar Hill School in Sugar Hill, GA. While in high school, Mr. Sudderth was a star basketball player and voted Most Likely to Succeed. He received a four-year college scholarship in agriculture but was unable to attend due to the start of World War II. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII and was stationed in the Philippines. He married his high school sweetheart, Ann Buice Sudderth, on November 30, 1942. After returning from WWII, Mr. Sudderth pursued a career in business and agriculture. He owned several businesses: the Forsyth County Furniture Store in Cumming, GA, the Sudderth & Buice Furniture Store in Buford, GA, and the Twin Springs Egg Farm in Buford, GA. In addition to his furniture store businesses, he sold real estate and built houses. After retirement from the furniture stores, Mr. Sudderth enjoyed spending time raising livestock and growing vegetables. He received over one thousand ribbons from the Gwinnett County Fair Association for his prize vegetables and honey. He was also very involved in the community. Glad is featured in the history book of Sugar Hill. He was a member of Farm Bureau and supported the agriculture and sports programs at North Gwinnett High School for a number of years. Mr. Sudderth was a Mason, a member of the LaFayette Lodge No. 44 F.A.& M. in Cumming, GA, and a Shriner. He was former Mayor Pro Tem and former Councilman in Cumming, GA. He was a former Director of the Bank of Cumming. Mr. Sudderth was a member of the Peoples Bank Travel Club in Buford which allowed him and his wife, Ann, to travel the country. Mr. Sudderth's faith was his reason for living. He was a member of the Sugar Hill Baptist Church for over sixty years, where he served on the Deacon Board and taught Sunday School. He went to Sunday School every Sunday; he did not miss for over forty-five years. He was the Chairman of the Sugar Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Committee for over fifty years. Mr. Sudderth was Co-Chairman of the Building Committee of Sugar Hill Baptist Church when the new church was built on Broad Street in Sugar Hill, GA. He was a member of the Senior Adult Men's Sunday School class with teacher Tom Moreland. Mr. Sudderth was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother; he loved his family and friends very much. The family wishes to thank all of his caregivers who took wonderful care of Glad during his illness. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the Sugar Hill Baptist Church Chapel with Rev. Charles Pirkle and Rev. Chuck Allen officiating, and the eulogy given by Sandy Sansing. Interment will be in the Sugar Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Sugar Hill, GA with Rev. Ron Davidson officiating the graveside service. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 18 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday, November 19 from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
