Harriet Hudson Walker

Harriet Elizabeth Hudson Walker of Stone Mountain, Georgia, age 83, passed peacefully on August 15, 2025, after a prolonged illness. The family would like to thank Family Hospice, the staff at Waypoint Senior Living, the ministers of North Decatur Presbyterian Church, and the numerous people who cared for Harriet over the past few years. She has joined her husband, Max Walker; parents, Harry & Fannie Mae Hudson; and sisters, Lola Morris, Elise Scott, and Jennie Bowman. Harriet is survived by daughter, Katherine; daughter and son-in-law, Kerri and Johny; grandchildren, Elijah and Harrison; sister, Margie Stewart; and many nieces and nephews. Harriet was born September 17, 1941, in Indiantown, South Carolina, as the youngest of five sisters. After her father’s early death, she was sent to Thornwell Orphanage in Clinton, South Carolina, where she lived until high school graduation. Although she seldom spoke about her time at Thornwell, she remained an active fundraiser for the organization throughout her life. Harriet attended Presbyterian College for two years, a period during which she met her husband, Max Walker. The couple married in 1963 and celebrated 58 years together before Max’s death in 2022. Just over five feet tall and born with hearing deficits, Harriet was a fierce dynamo who tackled everything with passion and endless energy. For many years, she worked as an administrative assistant for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, with a focus on the Tri-State Water Wars. Devoted to her community, she was a member of Rehoboth Presbyterian Church for 47 years, where she taught Sunday School and organized special programs. Her retirement was devoted to caring for Max and the grandchildren. She frequently watched the grandkids after school and attended as many school functions, baseball games, and dance recitals as possible. Harriet loved milkshakes, her garden, and the collection of stray cats that took up residence. She was a prolific reader of spy novels and loved playing ‘Ms. Pac-Man’. She was a spirited sports fan, cheering for the Atlanta Braves and the Clemson Tigers. The loudest cheers were always for her grandson Elijah’s baseball team. A celebration of life will be held on her birthday, September 17, 2025, at 5:30 PM. The service will be held at North Decatur Presbyterian Church, 611 Medlock Road, Decatur, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you remember Harriet by contributing to Thornwell, the Alzheimer’s Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
