Henry F. Lazenby

Henry Fraser Lazenby, age 74, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 15, 2025, after a 14-year battle with a rare form of lymphoma. He was born August 21, 1950, in Charleston, South Carolina, and grew up in Grant Park and Decatur, Georgia, graduating from Southwest Dekalb High School in 1968. He enlisted in the military and served from 1968 to 1970. He was posted to the Phu Lam Signal Facility outside Saigon, Vietnam, where he first worked with computers. This is where he experienced the reality of God in a personal and loving way, despite circumstances that seemed to make this impossible. This experience encouraged him to pursue the study of theology at a number of schools: Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina, Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, and the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, earning an MDiv, a ThM and a PhD. These studies enabled him to recognize the value of a Reformed rationality when trying to understand the reality of God. While in Columbia International University he met his wife, Lois Margaret Storms, and married in 1974. She supported him throughout their travels, earning three PhT’s (putting hubby through) in the process. He taught theology at various schools in the United States and India. His published writings include the non-fiction works, Explaining the Experience of God and The Struggle of Faith in a World of Beliefs. He also wrote a fiction work, A Death in Heaven, in addition to a number of journal articles. During his journey, he found the study of theology to be the best preparation for meeting his Maker. He joined his wife’s CPA firm as the IT Manager in 1997 caring for the IT needs of the firm. He also enjoyed the culinary responsibility of providing Saturday lunches during tax season and hosting the firm’s annual Christmas party. His smiling face, sharp wit and infectious laughter mingled with tall tales, will be greatly missed by the partners and staff. Believing that “not all angels have wings, some have whiskers”, Henry spoiled 9 cats over his 50-year marriage. Creating and nurturing bonsai plants also provided another outlet for his creativity. In addition to his wife, he is survived by brother, Gary Lazenby of Blue Ridge, Georgia, sister, Connie (Mike) Purser of Lilburn, Georgia, sister-in-law Linda (Ray) Walker of Madison, Georgia, brother-in-law Gordon (Karen) Storms of Filmore, New York, and eleven nieces and nephews. He is predeceased in death by his parents, Edith Violet Johnson Lazenby in 1994, and Louis Wayne Lazenby, Sr. in 2002, and his brother, Louis Wayne Lazenby, Jr. in 2005. The family thanks St Mary & St Martha Episcopal Church for its loving support throughout his illness. We are also grateful for the intercessory prayers of the multitude of faithful friends around the world. The family will receive friends at Flanigan Funeral Home located in Buford, GA on Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Memorial Services will be held at the St. Mary and St. Martha Episcopal Church (4346 Ridge Road, Buford, GA 30519) on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow afterwards. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Mary & St Martha Episcopal Church, 4346 Ridge Road, Buford, GA 30519 or your favorite charity.
