Mildred Pearl Moon Martin

Mildred Pearl Moon Martin, 82, passed away on September 7, 2026. She was a deeply loved wife, mother, Nana, sister, and mother-in-law whose greatest joy in life was simply being with the people she loved. Mildred was born on October 2, 1943, to Charlie Bert Moon Sr. and Bessie Pearl Bruce Moon and was one of seven children. She grew up alongside her siblings, Ruby Jewel Moon Lockridge, Charlie Bert “Buck” Moon Jr., Wesley Clinton Moon, David “Danny” Moon, Edna Lee Moon Stephens, and Jerry Michael Moon. The bonds of family that surrounded Mildred from the beginning of her life remained at the very heart of who she was throughout her life. Mildred married the love of her life, Winton Martin, on June 29, 1963. Together, they shared 63 years of marriage, building a life and family that meant everything to her. She was the loving mother of Robert Scott Martin, Kevin Lee Martin, and Brian Keith Martin, and she also carried in her heart the memory of her son, Greggory Michael Martin. Mildred devoted 23 years to Gwinnett County Public Schools, serving as a paraprofessional at Dyer Elementary School before retiring. During her many years there, she touched the lives of countless children through the care and kindness she showed them. Her love for children and her caring nature extended far beyond her own family, leaving an impact on generations of students that passed through Dyer Elementary. Above all else, Mildred loved her family fiercely and completely. She didn’t need grand occasions or elaborate plans to be happy. What mattered most to her was knowing that her family was near. Even during the more difficult days toward the end of her life, the people caring for Mildred could see just how much her family meant to her. Her caregivers shared that the days she knew her family was coming to see her were the days they would see a smile on her face. More than anything, she simply wanted to be with the people she loved. Mildred welcomed her daughters-in-law, Rachel and Laura, not simply as the women her sons married, but as daughters of her own. She took them into her heart, cared for them deeply, and gave them the beautiful gift of knowing they truly belonged in her family. One of Mildred’s most treasured roles was being “Nana.” She was Nana to Mitchell, Justin, James, Davis, and Jade, and she loved each of them wholeheartedly. Being their Nana brought her tremendous joy, and the love she had for her grandchildren was unconditional. Mildred will be remembered for the love she gave, the family she cherished, and the way she opened her heart to the people who became part of her life. Her family was her happiness, her comfort, and her greatest treasure. She is survived by her beloved husband, Winton Martin; her sons, Robert Scott Martin, Kevin Lee Martin his wife Rachel, and Brian Keith Martin his wife Laura; her grandchildren, Mitchell, Justin, James, Davis, and Jade; and her brother, Jerry Moon, her only surviving sibling. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and loved ones who will carry her memory with them. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Bert Moon Sr. and Bessie Pearl Bruce Moon; her infant son, Greggory Michael Martin; and her siblings, Ruby Jewel Moon Lockridge, Charlie Bert “Buck” Moon Jr., Wesley Clinton Moon, David “Danny” Moon, and Edna Lee Moon Stephens. For those who loved Mildred, there will always be an empty place where she once sat, but there will also be countless reminders of the love she left behind. A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026 in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, GA with Pastor Danny Ashworth officiating. Interment will follow at Peachtree Road Baptist Church Cemetery, Suwanee, GA. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 11, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
