William "Bill" Oliver Roberson

Beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather William Oliver "Bill" Roberson, 81, passed away on August 23, 2024, in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Born on September 5, 1943, in Gadsden, Alabama, Bill was a man of strong character and warmth. He was known for being loving, irascible, loyal, tough, generous, gruff, big-hearted, intelligent, and kind. Bill served proudly in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964, dedicating four years to serving his country with honor. After his military service, he worked for Meadow Gold Dairies for several years, then embarked on a successful career in HVAC from the late 1960s to his retirement in 2011. He spent 19 years at Peachtree Trane Heating and Air, starting in 1972. When he retired, he was a field service representative for the Trane Corporation. He attended Emma Sansom High, Gadsden State University, and Alabama Trade School (Gadsden). He received an associate’s degree from the University of Alabama (Gadsden campus). His passion for learning was paralleled by his love for his hobbies, which included model trains, computers, tinkering, travel, and cheering for the University of Alabama football team. A devout member of the community, Bill worshiped at Ivy Creek Baptist Church. Earlier, he attended Hebron Baptist Church and Glover Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. His faith and commitment to his community were evident in all aspects of his life. Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dianna Goss Roberson; daughters Cynthia Armistead Newman (Rick) and Wenda Peltz (Jeff); daughter-in-law Amanda Roberson; grandchildren Katherine Robillard (Nathan Pervorse), Will Peltz, Sadie Roberson, Jack Roberson, and Eli Roberson; great-grandchildren Esther Robillard and Oliver Pervorse; sister Patricia Farmer, brother Jim Roberson, sister-in-law Linda Roberson, and brother-in-law Buddy Walden; brother-in-law Bud Goss and sister-in-law Pat Goss; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sons William Oliver Roberson Jr. and William Matthew Roberson; parents Albert and Sarah Roberson; sisters Rebecca Kilgo, Gwendline Roberson, and Sarah Mercedes Walden; brothers Grover Roberson and Albert Roberson. Services will be held at Ivy Creek Baptist Church in Buford, Georgia on August 26, 2024. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ivy Creek Building Fund. Flanigan Funeral Home and Crematory in Buford, Georgia, is assisting the family with arrangements. Bill's legacy of steadfast love, loyalty, and community service will forever be cherished by those who knew him
