Yves Baoyi Shen

Yves BaoYi Shen, age 89, of Suwanee, GA, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 12, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with dementia. He was born on May 18, 1937, into a devout Shanghai family whose Catholic roots run deep for generations. As the 7th of 14 children, Yves enjoyed a wonderful, faith-filled childhood until the age of 15, when waves of persecution against Catholic Christians reached Shanghai. Despite the immense hardships brought upon him and his family, Yves remained fiercely steadfast. He lived his faith through radical charity, showing profound kindness not only to his friends but also to his persecutors. "And above all these things have charity, which is the bond of perfection." — Colossians 3:14 A brilliant chemical engineer by trade, Yves willingly chose to forfeit professional advancements and promotions that would have required him to join the Party. He worked hard and joyfully, entirely unconcerned with worldly fame or status, choosing instead to honor Our Lord. Even when living in a society where he could not publicly proclaim his Christianity, his actions spoke for him—he simply lived like Christ. He possessed a profound inner peace, always content to serve, sacrifice, and bring joy to his family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. Beyond his devotion to faith and family, Yves had a deep passion for classical music, photography, and the joy of cooking for those he loved. In 2017, Yves immigrated to America, where he cherished traveling with his grandchildren and, most importantly, finally experiencing the true freedom of worship. Yves was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cecelia Wu; his parents, Wen-Ming Zhang and Huai Zu Shen; and 10 of his siblings. He is survived by his three siblings; devoted children, Theresa Shen, YunRu Shen, and WenRu Shen; his cherished grandchildren, Lucas Jansenson and Sophie Jansenson; as well as 40 beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness..." — 2 Timothy 4:7-8 A traditional Catholic Funeral Mass will be celebrated in memory of Yves’ life and faith: • Date: Monday, July 27, 2026 • Time: 11:00 AM • Location: Catholic Church of St. Monica, 1700 Buford Hwy, Duluth, GA A reception will be held in the church after the Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Yves' memory to support the Haiti Twinning Medical Mission of the Catholic Church of St. Monica. Yves will be deeply missed, but his legacy of unwavering faith, quiet courage, and boundless love will be forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew him.
